Olivia Rodrigos Guts Becomes Her Second No. 1 Album

Olivia Rodrigo‘s sophomore effort “Guts” becomes the 20-year-old’s second No. 1 album, starting with the equivalent of 302,000 albums sold in the United States and nearly 100 million streams — the fourth largest opening week for any album in 2023. It follows Travis Scott’s massive opening week with “Utopia,” which entered with 496,000 units back in July.

Rodrigo’s debut album “Sour” made its entrance in 2021 with 295,000 units and spent a total of five weeks as the lead while her punky single “Good 4 U” also topped the Hot 100. She again simultaneously tops the songs and albums chart with her latest release and “Vampire,” the first single she released off “Guts” back in June, returns to top the singles chart at No. 1 with 23 million streams, according to data provided by Luminate. All 12 tracks off the record placed in the top 40 of the Hot 100, with “Bad Idea Right?” following “Vampire” at No. 7.

The feat comes on the heels of Rodrigo’s announcement of a 75-date world tour that is slated to begin in February 2024 with support from British dance-pop singer PinkPantheress; L.A.-based pop singer Chappell Roan; California pop-rock singer Remi Wolf on all European dates; and veteran alt-rock act the Breeders.

Back on the albums chart, BTS member V scored a No. 2 entry with his debut solo album “Layover” opening with the equivalent of 100,000 sales and 13 million streams. Zach Bryan’s self-titled album falls to No. 3 with 95,000 equivalent album units after spending its first two weeks at No. 1.

The only other new release in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 this week comes from country folk singer Tyler Childs. “Rustin’ in the Rain,” Childs’ sixth studio album, debuts at No. 10 with 38,000 equivalent album units earned and is the second top 10-charting of his career behind “Can I Take My Hounds To Heaven,” which debuted at No. 8 in 2022.

Morgan Wallen’s “One Thing at a Time,” the second album to have the biggest opening week of 2023 with half-million units is now at No. 4 and Scott’s “Utopia” is at No. 5.

SZA’s “SOS” is still at No. 6 while Peso Pluma’s “Génesis” lifts up to No. 7 from No. 6. Taylor Swift’s former No. 1 “Midnights” is at No. 8 and Wallen’s 2021 record “Dangerous: The Double Album,” is at No. 9.

The singles chart remains, for the most part, unchanged, as Doja Cat’s “Paint The Town Red” slips to No. 2 and “I Remember Everything,” Zach Bryan and Kacey Musgraves’s first No. 1 single, now at No. 3. Luke Combs’ “Fast Car” is at No. 4; Swift’s “Cruel Summer” is at No. 5; Wallen’s “Last Night” is at No. 6 and SZA’s “Snooze” is at No. 8. Closing out the top 10 singles is Gunna’s “fukumean” at No. 9 and Dua Lipa’s “Dance The Night” is No. 10.

Other notable releases on this week’s Hot 100 include Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “Bongos,” which debuts at No. 14 on this week’s chart, and Peso Pluma, Jasiel Nunez and Junior H’s “Bipolar,” which debuts at No. 60. On next week’s Hot 100, Rodrigo’s “Vampire” will have to fend off “Slime You Out,” a new release from Drake and SZA.
